Boris Grants £6 Million to Rebuild Broomfield House

We were delighted to hear this week that the conucil's £6m bid to the Mayor of London for the restoration of Broomfield House has been given indiciative funding for 2010/11.

The investment of nearly £6m into one of our most historic buildings would be a major boost to further protecting Enfield's heritage and character for yuture generations.

In the meantime, we'll continue to work with the local community to ensure we are ready to deliver when we get the go-ahead. The final scheme would see the house, kitchen, garden area and stable block restored. The funding is required to provide at least 18 sheltered housing units for local older people and give public access back to the house including a cafe and meeting rooms.

The heritage and Conservation team will start to put together the development team necessary to take the Broomfield House project forward.

Local MP David Burrowes said: "This is one of the longest running prblems in ou constituency, previous administrations have failed to find a solution to this problem but at long last the future is bright for restoring Broomfield House. Boris has lived up to his pledge to be a Maoyr who listens and acts in the best interests of Outer London."

Concil leader Mike Rye added: "In addition to bringing an end to years of uncertainty over the future of Broomfield House, the funding boost will be vital to the local economy, p[roviding jobs in the long term as well as support for our strugglking construction industry. This Conservative administration will also use some of it's reserves to fund additional works around this grant to ensure a lasting legacy for the residents of Southgate and Palmers Green."
