About Enfield Southgate Consituency
Enfield Southgate as a constituency came into being as an amalgamation of parts of Enfield-West and Southgate & Wood-Green in 1974 with Sir Anthony Berry as the first MP. Situated between the countryside of the Hertfordshire Green Belt and the City of London, the constituency contains both urban and metropolitan areas.
Despite being close to the heart of London, this leafy suburb retains a certain Country Village feel which stems from the Villages around which the area grew up. Each area is very different and distinctive in its own right but together they form Enfield Southgate.
Enfield Southgate has excellent transport links; five Tube stations all on the Piccadilly line, four train stations on First Captal Connect, Hertford loop and two on the Main East-coast line. It is therefore ideally situated for Travel to the City of London (30 mins) and the West-End (45 mins).
Our MP
On 5 May 2005 David Burrowes a local boy who was born, grew up and lives in Enfield Southgate with his family: wife Janet, twins Barnaby and Harriet, Dougal, Dorothy and Noah was elected as MP.
David travels in on the Tube to Westminster to represent the people of Enfield Southgate in Parliament every day. He insists on living in the constituency with his family and can often be found traveling back on the Tube to Southgate in the early hours after voting has ended.
